Hot tub hire requirements: power, water, space and access
Updated 6 November 2026 · By the Hot Tub Hire team
Short answer: To hire a hot tub you need a flat, level and firm surface that can take well over a tonne, a 13 amp outdoor socket protected by an RCD within reach of the tub without a standard extension lead, and a hose to fill it. Hard-shell tubs also need clear access, usually at least around 90 cm wide, from the road to the set-up spot.

Power supply
- A weatherproof 13 amp outdoor socket is ideal
- The socket should be RCD protected
- Do not use a standard extension lead
- Some larger spas need a dedicated supply, which we will flag before booking
Base and space
Patios, paving and concrete bases are usually ideal. Lawns can work for inflatables if the ground is level and a protective base is used, but the grass underneath will suffer. Raised decking, roof terraces and balconies need to be checked for load.
| Tub type | Typical space needed |
|---|---|
| 4 person inflatable | About 2 m by 2 m plus working room |
| 6 person inflatable | About 2.2 m by 2.2 m plus working room |
| Hard-shell spa | About 2.2 m by 2.2 m or more, plus access to the side panels |
Water
You need an outside tap or a hose that reaches the tub. Filling a typical tub takes about an hour or two depending on water pressure.
Access
- Measure the narrowest point on the route, including gates and side passages
- Tell us about steps, slopes or tight corners
- Hard-shell tubs are moved on their side and need more room than inflatables
